Fishing News from Captain Tom Straus
Dear Fellow Anglers,
Well another year has passed quickly, I hope this newsletter finds you well. The walleye fishing in Lake Erie 2007, was the finest I've ever seen. Limit catches were frequent and most enjoyed quality charters throughout September. Lake Ontario salmon fishing was slow the first week of August, then started picking up towards the middle of the month. Overall it was a very good year charter fishing Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.
April walleye fishing, on Lake Erie, was great after the Northeast winds passed. The bite was on and never stopped. The spawning walleye came into the beach and reef areas with force; limits were taken daily. The Ohio DNR claim that walleye and perch and an excellent hatch and fishing will be fantastic in 2008.
Smallmouth Bass fishing on Lake Erie was a challenge this year, one day decent, the next day nothing seemed to work. The best chance for good smallmouth bass trips are still Pelee Island, Canada.
The Erie Drifter is proud to announce the purchase of a new 2007 Sportcraft 302. The boat comes powered with a Yanmar Diesel and Raymarine electronics including sonar, gps, radar and autopilot. The newly designed Sportcraft has totally changed for the serious fisherman. The spacious boat is 33 feet long and has a 10 foot beam. The boat was featured on the cover of the Great Lakes Angler Magazine, February 2008.
The salmon fishing charters on Lake Ontario, in Point Breeze New York, this year started off slow. The summer rains were few and the rising water temperatures broke records for early August. The fishing picked up towards the middle of the month and many enjoyed limit catches of large salmon. The pen raising projects of salmon and steelhead in the oak Orchard Creek continue to be a success, providing a good future for sporfishing beautiful Lake Ontario.
For the 2008 salmon charter fishing, we have decided to arrive in Point Breeze, New York a week later than years past, to hopefully have better fishing for all. Call us today to schedule the trip of a lifetime!
With the 2008 charter fishing season approaching quickly, the new year brings many challenges due to rising fuel costs for everyone. Erie Drifter Sportfishing Charters will keep increases down to a minimum, unless fuel reches new record levels, a fuel surcharge will have to go into effect.
Erie Drifter Sportfising Charters clients who fished and stayed with us this passed year enjoyed another excellent year with many trophies to the taxiderist. We are looking forward to another exciting season of quality fishing and memories of a lifetime.
I wish to thank you all for your continued support and remember: our goal is your fishing success!
Let's go fishing!!!
